Who am I?

I am a web developer located in West Michigan with nearly ten years of web development experience.  I have a BS in Computer Information Systems from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.  My desire to continue to learn pushed me to web development where the options are endless and the technology is continually changing.

In addition to being a web developer I have a ton of hobbies, way to many to list, but my favorites would probably be cooking, fishing, hunting and reading.

What do I do?

I specialize in creating unique solutions to make the web a place for your business or organization to flourish.  In my nearly ten years of experience creating web applications I have created everything from simple multi-page websites to complex data driven e-commerce sites with hundreds of thousands of skus.

Developing the right solution is all about understanding the problem that needs to be solved and catering the solution to that problem.  Each project is delivered on time and is followed up with thorough training and documentation as necessary.

My solutions are typically based on pre-existing platforms such as WordPress or Joomla to make development as rapid as possible and keep costs to a minimum.  My technical skills are numerous and include things like HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, ASP.NET, C#, JavaScript/jQuery, WordPress and much more.

Examples

Below are a couple of examples of work I have recently completed.

James Fund

The James Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of orphans and widows around the world.  The James Fund’s previous website was dated and in need of replacing, the administration interface was difficult for the staff members to use.

The new site was developed in WordPress 2.9 and migrated to 3.0.  Using the built in date types and  custom data taxonomies data entry is now effortless for the staff.  In addition to the use of custom data taxonomies, the James Fund site uses several CSS3 properties.  See if you can find them.

Red Flannel Festival

The Red Flannel Festival is a non-profit organization based in Cedar Springs, Michigan that puts on the Red Flannel Festival each a 71 year tradition in Cedar Springs.  The Red Flannel Festival’sprevious site was built in ASP.NET and was not easy for the staff to update at their convenience.

The primary goal of the new site was to create a site that could be updated 24/7 by the festival staff and encompassed all of the types of data on the previous site.  The new site was developed in WordPress 3.0 and features six unique custom data taxonomies to make data entry effortless and create a uniform display every time.  There was a lot of custom development that happened on the public facing site as well to display the information in these custom taxonomies in a relative and logical fashion.
